Autumn leaves and new house keys

On 30th September, after 5 months of waiting, we finally got the keys to our first home!

We collected the keys at lunchtime and drove over to the house with champagne and strawberries to enjoy in our new house.img_1563We spent an unglamourous two hours hoovering up spiders, pulling down curtains and lampshades, and really this should have been a big hint as to how we’d spend the first month of owning our home.img_1640Throughout October, we pulled up carpets, ripped out a bathroom and painted every wall in sight, finally moving in on 29th October with two scaredy cats and rather a lot of boxes.img_1658As a result, most of my painting this autumn has been on walls rather than in my sketchbooks, but I still managed to fit in a few autumn themed illustrations.img_1594I spent most of my days dressed in scruffy, paint covered jeans and jumpers, so it’s nice to imagine what I could’ve been wearing to enjoy sunny autumn days.img_1495And despite being fully prepared for any trick or treaters on Halloween, we didn’t get a single visitor! So, unfortunately for us, we’ve had to eat all of the chocolates ourselves…img_1649Once we’ve finished putting the house back together again, I’ll share some before and after photos so you can see the transformation from unloved rental to very-much-loved first home. Now to prepare for our first Christmas in our new home!
