Art prints coming soon!

I’m finally just one step away from putting my art prints up for sale!

My main goal for 2017 is to start selling art prints of my illustrations, and I’m so close to adding these to my etsy shop, I just need your help for that final stage!

Before I can set them up in my shop, I need to choose just 5 of my illustrations to start the ball rolling, then I’ll be able to offer them all up to the wider world.

So, my question to you:

Which illustrations should I include in my first print run?

Any and all of the illustrations I’ve shared on Facebook, instagram and my blog are eligible to be turned into prints. I’ll then choose the 5 most popular illustrations to send to be printed, and these will be the first ones that are ready to buy in my etsy shop.

As a thank you, I’ll be sharing a 10% discount code for my etsy shop with everyone that makes a suggestion!

All prints will be on 340gsm textured card, as shown by this mini test print of my ‘I do believe in fairies’ illustration. They will be unframed and unmounted.

The prints will be A4, at a cost of £12 plus £2.50 p&p. I may also offer A5 prints in the future!

I can’t wait to hear your suggestions!

and just to try to tempt you, think how cute one of these prints could look on your shelf…

I’m on Redbubble!

As you may be able to tell from the title, I’ve now added some of my illustrations to Redbubble!

Redbubble is a website where I can upload my illustrations and they handle all of the printing and distribution of them on lots of products – notebooks, phone cases, art prints, mugs, etc etc, lots of stuff! Check it out here.

So, in theory, all I need to do is pop my artwork up there and then everything is taken care of!

I ordered a few tester products and I’ve got to admit, results were mixed!

The first item I received was my spring fox illustration on a cute little mug.

fox mug

I’m not 100% happy with the colours, they seem a little overexposed (radioactive fox anyone?!), but I’m hoping it’s just due to printing on a shiny ceramic surface! It’s certainly doing a good job for my afternoon tea 🙂

The next items that arrived were my giraffe and otter illustrations on tote bags.

tote bags

I’m so disappointed with these! I had super high hopes of strolling into town with a cute giraffe bag on my shoulder, but it’s not to be. Again, the colours aren’t quite right, faded and a bit weird, and the illustrations are soft/blurry because of the print being so large – which on the one hand, is my fault for sizing it wrong, but on the other hand, they looked brill on the mock ups, so i didn’t realise!

As I’m unhappy with these tote bag prints, I’ve removed any fabric versions of illustrations from the redbubble shop. Hopefully, I’ll find a solution and then we can all walk around town with Bethany Robyn tote bags!

The last item to be delivered was my ducky illustration as an art board print.

I’m so happy, it’s an adorable addition to my shelf 🙂

So, definitely a mixed reception for my test products!

Currently, I’ve got 12 animal illustrations uploaded on the site, each of the designs is available on a variety of products (click on the illustration to see what other products are available) and I’m planning to add some of my childrens illustrations later this week.

Please have a look at my redbubble shop and let me know what you think!

The January not-so-blues

Every year, without fail, I forget how cold January is.

Once I’m passed new year, I’m thinking about Spring and Easter, baby lambs and bunnies, daffodils and hot crossed buns, and then I remember there is still the rest of winter to get through – the grey, misty and cold bit, not the festive bit.

So, I made an effort to focus on some wintery illustrations to start the year, and to celebrate the two hours of light snow that dusted the garden a week or so ago!

If I ever were to actually leave the house, I would definitely want to be wearing something warm and stylish, like a jade green coat or a purple bobble hat.

winter coffee girl

I know it’s not very cool to admit, but I don’t drink coffee, so I’m imagining that this is hot chocolate, with a swirl of whipped cream and marshmallows squished inside the lid.

winter walk

Trying to continue with my children’s illustrations, I saw an adorable winter walk photo pop up on my instagram feed, so I had to recreate it in my sketch book! I didn’t even realise that I’d given him the same coat as my windy day kite flyer!

January seems to have the rep of being a depressing month, so I wanted to fill it with cold weather adventures!

And finally, my crystal ball illustration to help me try to see what’s to come this year!

One thing that will definitely happen this year, is I will finally start selling prints of my illustrations. I’m looking into the different options at the moment, so will share an update as soon as I know more! I hope you’re keeping warm in this chilly winter weather 🙂

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

A few days late, but given that I’m actually managing to write this in January, I’m going to see this as a win!

Despite 2016 being quite a suspect year in general, in our house it was quite a year! I finally took the plunge and opened my etsy shop in March, we got a new car in April, and a few weeks (or maybe days) later, we put an offer on our first house. It took until September, but we finally got the keys and then spent October making it both liveable and lovable.

October also marked two years since going freelance, and although sometimes it can be a bit scary seeing empty pages in the diary, I’m still so glad I did it!

Since moving into our first home we’ve done exciting things such as buying curtains, light fixtures and even a rug – a huge step for us! Then we had the most laid back Christmas Day at home, just us two and the pets – bliss!

I can’t wait to see what 2017 holds!

My best 9 illustrations according to instagram!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

It’s that time again; nights are drawing in, there’s a chill in the air and mince pies are sneaking into the shops… it’s the lead up to Christmas!

So to help spread the festive cheer, I’ve added a pack of 8 Christmas cards to my etsy shop!

01-full-pack

There are a couple of traditional cards

02-traditional

A couple of cards for animal lovers

04-animals

And a few cards filled with Christmas characters embracing the festive spirit

So hopefully, with this selection, there is something for everyone. Stock is quite limited, so head on over to my etsy shop if you’d like the chance to buy!

Autumn leaves and new house keys

On 30th September, after 5 months of waiting, we finally got the keys to our first home!

We collected the keys at lunchtime and drove over to the house with champagne and strawberries to enjoy in our new house.

img_1563

We spent an unglamourous two hours hoovering up spiders, pulling down curtains and lampshades, and really this should have been a big hint as to how we’d spend the first month of owning our home.

img_1640

Throughout October, we pulled up carpets, ripped out a bathroom and painted every wall in sight, finally moving in on 29th October with two scaredy cats and rather a lot of boxes.

img_1658

As a result, most of my painting this autumn has been on walls rather than in my sketchbooks, but I still managed to fit in a few autumn themed illustrations.

img_1594

I spent most of my days dressed in scruffy, paint covered jeans and jumpers, so it’s nice to imagine what I could’ve been wearing to enjoy sunny autumn days.

img_1495

And despite being fully prepared for any trick or treaters on Halloween, we didn’t get a single visitor! So, unfortunately for us, we’ve had to eat all of the chocolates ourselves…

img_1649

Once we’ve finished putting the house back together again, I’ll share some before and after photos so you can see the transformation from unloved rental to very-much-loved first home. Now to prepare for our first Christmas in our new home!

Summer round up

It looks like Summer is officially over for yet another year, but that does mean that Autumn is just around the corner.

This Summer, I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time at home painting and enjoying the sunshine (and rain showers!).

img_1517

I designed and printed 16 new cards for my etsy store (go on, have a browse!), I painted 8 christmas card designs that I’m no longer keen on (typical!) and I’ve finally found my own painting style.

img_0918

Well, hello there, indeed! I’ve been trying to figure out for so long what kind of style I wanted for my illustrations and I am so glad I’ve found it at last!

img_1471

As a lover of childrens’ books, fairy tales and animated films, it’s surprising that it took me so long to realise that this is what would capture my imagination and give me most inspiration.

img_1317

So now my sketchbooks are slowly filling up with cute and colourful illustrations of little ones on adventures, playing dress up and making friends. I share most of my favs on instagram, so follow me there for the latest illustrations!

Good weather for ducks

No matter how strongly the sun is shining, you know it’s only a matter of time before it starts raining again. After all, it is the Great British Summer!

Even as I write this, I’ve just had to dash outside to bring the sun lounger in. What started out as a glorious August morning has turned into an unpredictable day swinging between toasty sunshine and spots of rain. Oh well, it started brightly!

When I used to visit my Gran in the summer holidays, we’d look out on rainy days to see ducks merrily gliding along the river at the end of the garden. They’d be swimming along in the rain, diving in, in search of food or an unlucky holiday maker handing out bread under cover of a large umbrella. I’d huff and slouch my shoulders at another day wasted and my Gran would cheerfully say ‘well, it’s good weather for ducks.’

IMG_1237

So maybe, it’s time to stop frowning at the rain clouds and embrace the British weather.

IMG_1204

And perhaps, it’s also time to invest in a good anorak and wellies!

Even more cards in my Etsy shop!

My card empire is growing! I now have a grand total of 28 card designs available in my shop!

Following on from adding my Happy Cakeday cards to my Etsy shop a few weeks ago, I have now added another 3 sets of cards to my shop!

Firstly, as it’s wedding season, I thought I had best add some of my own designs to the card choice:

IMG_1098

I’ve also added some cuddly teddy bear cards for new arrivals, either new babies or new pets 🙂

IMG_1142

And as previously promised, I’ve finally added my animal cards to the shop!

IMG_1093

Here’s a quick snap of a giraffe card that I sent out yesterday, along with all of its postal packaging:

IMG_1148 copy

So, this will be the last card announcement for a little while (phew!), as I’m already back to my sketchbook trying out some new designs and trying to build up the courage to add my custom name illustrations to my shop! Is it silly to be nervous of adding it in case someone actually orders one?!

So, I will leave you with the new offer I have running in my shop, you can buy 4 cards for £8.50 – go on, you know you want to! And as always, thank you so much for supporting me on this journey! I appreciate every like and share as much as any purchase!
